Bringing Inity to the people through music

hi folks,i was thinking that maybe its time to move dub vibrations and rdg to a new home as ning have recently removed the ability to download tunes, and tacky new players.they say you can still allow downloads by going to the text section.a pain in the fucking arse,if you ask me.problem with a move is i dont have the money to even contribute to running a new site but i do have time to run it if any members are up for clubbing together to pay for it.also i think its about time to put out a free net dub album, featuring artists from our sites.with the idea of the next ones costing about 8 quid or something, with the profits going to running a new improved site.let me know what you think.

Blessings John, the same idea we talked long time...lets say Flo,Kricky and i will start a site on easter with the intention to share our recorded tracks and to put our mass of session cuts on.
A bit early to let out details, but our programmers are skillfull and theres nuff cheap webspace and decent content management software as freeware on the web, that i´m sure it will be a great site with great features, not just listening or downloading, viewing pics etc....
Lets talk on the congress how we can make this a community thing!Definitly time to move to our own site...

Yep, count us in on that. I've been setting up one over here in Spain, in Spanish using the jamroom package. Must say, I'm well impressed. It's also a real quick way of getting it up and running. would cost about 200 odd quid to set it up. I'm willing to throw in something, and as regards net label thing, thats a class idea. We should seriously move on this when we're all together in Tubingen. I seriously spent one hell of a lot of time sorting it out, but it's well easy to run once it's all in place. You can check out the site I'm in the process of setting up with a mate at www.portalurbano.org . It's all in Spanish, but will soon have it in English too, tho to be honest, it aint what I'm setting it up for. Maybe we could try and get as much material together for the album before we all meet so we could decide on tracks all together and face to face..... would be easier than doing it over a forum. Only unrealeased mixes I'd say.

Who have we got on board for the netlabel thing. I dont mind mastering it all if needs be.

site looks awesome,Tim.clear,friendly layout,easy to navigate...cheers.
Please google for "plone",excellent content management software for free with many, many possibilities,we don´t need to buy jamroom.Jus a little webspace is needed...
Looking forward to reason about this @ the congress.

Yep,Still got stuff to do on the site, but it's getting there. I've checked out the plone thing Dirk, and if we can count on some free programmers then looks like quite an interesting option. We would need dedicated programming tho'. Seems to be somewhat more flexible than jamroom, but maybe we dont actually need so much flexibility as are offering basic services really. I'll check it out more, but for someone like John (or myself) to manage a site using plone I think jamroom seems an easier, more down to earth setup, tho I'm no expert. More stuff to talk about tho, without a doubt.

Look, I by no means want to down the Idea, but with all the free music and tracks, as well as the new look music industry getting in on the act, do you really believe this kind of project would stand any chance at all?
Unless someone comes up with a very, very, good idea, i see no prospects of this happening at all.
As Dirk mentioned, there is plenty of software out there to kick you up, and
I really do not wish to put a downer in on the whole subject, but it would be sad to see people spend a lot of time to get something together for the sake of 10 sales in a year.

i beg to differ,i recently downloaded a album called dub vibrations,i wonder where they got the idea for the title for that from lol,and its quality, also some of the french net labels do quite well, some featuring tracks by some of our compadres jahno, jacin etc.admittedly some producers on these sites are hobbyists and you can hear so in their productions, but there are also some top producers in the fold who deserve to be taken a little more seriously.all about quality control.the problem with things like the so called versionist cd,was it was compiled by someone that doesnt know much about reggae and was uneven half killer ,half filler.if we release something this would not be the case.i would propose the me and tim would choose the tracks for a comp, too many cooks and all that.no buddie, buddie stuff.if it aint hot ,it doesnt go on the comp.my idea is maybe to release a couple of free samplers to garner interest .then releases that you have to buy.if you think of weeding dub, manutension or even our own jahno.well these guys started like us but are now releasing quality cds.as for 10 sales a year, you dont know until you try.no offense to rdw, existing v but ive noticed a lot of the best producers there are holding their tunes back these days,no downloads etc.also a lot of the stuff available for download, not all of course,is of not too high a standard.to be honest i dont give some tracks away free from he goodness of my heart, they are basically free so i can build a listener base who might buy my cd once it is eventually ready.promotion nothing more.you know,i have done loads of work for people for free in the past, but there comes a time when hardcore reality kicks in.theres a lot of time and effort in production and its time for some payback.time to get serious.

Must agree with John there on that one. I know where you are coming from Rick and have spent the last year looking into this matter. I agree that maybe at first we would have little to no sales, but I for one wouldnt expect instant success, and wouldnt really measure success on just a sales level, even though eventually that might be the aim. If we can come up with a pure 100 killer (NO FILLER) set of CDs for download, but I mean each one is top class, then we are already setting ourselves apart. There are plenty of downloads for free out there, but how many are consistently 100% good? IMHO, none.......... yeap, we might have to spend a year or maybe more, offering stuff for free (or virtually free) but if John is up for managing the space, and we have a small but hardcore crew around us, then I think it could take off. There are many permutations of how to set it up and I look forward to talking through these this week!
